Local Area Information

We are so glad you have chosen to spend your vacation in Sayulita! Here is some local area information for you to get the most out of your stay along with some of Sayulita's hidden gems! We hope you discover everything that you dreamed of during your stay in Sayulita!

Transportation to Sayulita
One of the first things people ask...what's the best way to get to Sayulita from the airport in Puerto Vallarta?  There are several options...

  • You can walk across the bridge at the airport and take the bus for around 60 pesos
  • You can catch a taxi right at the airport
  • You can arrange for private transportation - there are a number of transportation companies in town that will pick you up in a comfortable Suburban style SUV, make a stop at the grocery store for you and deliver you directly to the building. Pricing for this service has gone up considerably over the last few years, but ranges in and around $3,000 pesos for the round-trip service
  • You can hire a private driver - we recommend and use Carlos Loza, a local small businessman from the area. Incredibly reliable, speaks great English and gives great rates for our guests.

Banking / Money Exchange
Cash is king...but don't bring your own country's currency, bring Mexican Pesos with you from home by purchasing some in advance from your bank, or bring your bank card to withdraw money from the bank or ATMs in town. There are a number of places that do accept credit cards, but most small restaurants and especially the shops and street vendors only take cash.

Sayulita has one primary bank in town (although there is a second bank coming soon!) - Intercam, which is on the main road into town, Revolucion, about half-way from the entrance to town and the bridge, near the bus station and right beside Saint Lukes Hospital. In addition to having extremely reliable ATM's on site, you can also exchange currency inside with a teller at a very reasonable rate. Address: Av. Revolución 231-Int. B, 63732 Sayulita, Mexico

There are dozens of ATMs around town that you can pull money out - but be warned that especially during busy season, they run out of money regularly! Typically, the machines are restocked every Tuesday, but that can fluctuate as well depending on the time of year. We recommend that if it's High Season or Holiday Season, be sure to withdraw enough cash BEFORE the weekend (for example, on a Thursday) or you may find yourself running all over town trying to find an ATM that has money!

Also, here's a little tip to help save you some money when using the ATMs...during the transaction, the machine will show you the exchange rate that it is giving and will ask you to confirm if you want to 'continue with conversion' or 'do not continue with conversion'. Choose the 'do not continue with conversion' option as the conversion rate that the machine is giving you will not be nearly as good as the conversion that your home bank will give you!

Getting Around Town
One of the many wonderful things about Sayulita is that you can walk EVERYWHERE!! However, if you are wanting to explore some of the areas not quite as easily reached on foot, we recommend renting a Golf Car. Our 'go to' rental is from Pacific Coast Golf Car Rentals. They have a location in the town center as well as pickups can be arranged at La Puesta hotel, which is located directly across the street from the Condominium complex. Advanced reservation is necessary to ensure availability as golf cart supply can be limited, especially during holiday and peak times. Carts are approximately $60 USD per 24-hour rental. We have golf cart parking in front of the pool, and a secure parking garage where you can park for the night.

Groceries
One of the great things about Sayulita is that there are dozens and dozens of Tienda's (stores) in town to grab things that you need! Many of your 'corner store' style stores are called Mini Super's...and they are honestly everywhere. If you are looking for more 'American' style foods, check out Trancos Carniceria. They have one location near the town center on Revolucion just over the bridge and another location on the south side just off the Punta Mita highway on the corner of Libertad.

Trancos sells local products, but also products of foreign origin that are typically very hard to find in Sayulita. Beyond their vast selection of quality meats, you can find a variety of foreign-made cookies, crackers, cheese, sauces, spices, sauces, ice-creams, soft drinks, milk, creamers, cereals, and prepared foods, such as machaca, rice, and beans.

You can also find a Costco, Walmart, Mega and La Comer in the Puerto Vallarta area if you are looking for something specific! La Comer even has a delivery service, which is super handy!!

Okay....now onto the best part of Sayulita....the FOOD!!!!

There are soooooooooo many amazing restaurants in town that it's hard to know where to start sometimes!  If you are super adventurous, just head out and stop for something to eat anywhere and everywhere!  To get you started though, here are a few of our 'go to' places for some amazing food:

Cafe El Espresso - also located right on the town square (on the south corner in the yellow building), El Espresso has been a landmark in town for decades now.  Serving some of the best American-style breakfast at incredibly reasonable prices, note that they are only open until 2 pm!  Stop in and ask for either Cristian or Beto and they will take amazing care of you!!

M&F Coffee Roasters - one of Sayulita’s newest little cafes, M&F Coffee Roasters offers a curated selection of carefully crafted coffees to get your caffeine fix.  The owner, Martin, has been roasting his own coffee beans for years now and is always experimenting with new types of beans and different roasting techniques to offer amazing flavours and aromas. If you are a bit of a coffee snob, you may just want to check this little place out!  Located on Calle Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez just around the corner from the Library, it’s easy to miss, but the few tables out front are worth taking a seat at on a lovely morning here in Sayulita.  Be sure to say hello to Antonio, who is almost ALWAYS behind the counter to take care of you!  Address:  Calle Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez 10.

Paris Delice Bakery - hands down, this is THE BEST bakery in town…no-one else comes even close! Baked fresh daily goodies that are to die for. We are addicted to this little gem and for many good reasons. Located across from the Library, Paris Delice is the kind of place you would expect to see in the trendy districts of France, not in a small Mexican surf village, but boy are we glad its here!  Their attention to detail when it comes to baking is unmatched in the Sayulita area, whether you are looking for croissants (con or sin chocolate), banquettes, éclairs, and yes, the tastiest cheesecake you will EVER have… this little bakery has got what you need, what you want, and definitely what you don’t know you even want yet until you see it sitting there gawking at you.  You won't regret seeking this gem of a place out!!  Address: Calle Miramar 18A

Chaman Creative Kitchen - it didn’t take long for this spot to become an instant favourite! Located just a few blocks down from the Condo on Avenida del Palmar, this is the closest, classiest, coolest, creative kitchen around.  Before we dive into how good the food is, lets start with the atmosphere first. The vibe this place has is unique. The open air dining, fantastic and helpful staff, great tunes including live music some evenings, all combine to make this a very enjoyable and relaxing spot to enjoy some great food.  The menu might be minimal, but the taste sure isn't!  Address: Ave. Del Palmar 565 Between Sabalo and Chiripa.

Marcolino's - if you’ve had enough Mexican tortillas and have a craving for some fine Italian dining, Marco has you covered. Marco is from Italy and ensures that all of the pasta is hand made and cooked right before your eyes. The level of elegance and flavor they present makes you feel like you’ve escaped Mexico for the evening and entered a quaint local Italian restaurant in Florence. We recently brought our Italian friend here for dinner and in his words 'this tastes as good as what my Nonna makes'....now THAT is saying something!!  Located on Revolucion so you can sit and enjoy some excellent food as you watch the town roll by…in all shapes and sizes and forms, this is one of our favourite places for people watching too! Don’t forget your wallet tho…this exceptional dining experience will cost you more than the typical Sayulita food vendor, but it is worth every penny!  Address: Calle Jose Mariscal 44

Mazo - one of the newer restaurants in town, it's located right across the street from the condo in the La Puesta hotel.  You don't need to be a guest at the hotel to enjoy the incredible food in this establishment...just wander on over and they will happily serve you! One of the most unique restaurants in Sayulita, blending phenomenal service with high-quality ingredients and elevated takes on Mexican fare. Savor exceptionally fresh plates and local seafood, complemented by a quiet, sophisticated ambiance with a modern flair. If you're looking for a super romantic place to take the significant other, we highly recommend you check it out!

And last, but certainly not least...

Street Tacos - seriously, if you have never tried the street taco's in Sayulita, you absolutely MUST while you are here!! Ivans Tacos is our first choice when it comes to the absolute best tacos with 2 convenient locations (one just up the street from Cafe El Espresso on the corner of the town square and one located in front of Trancos Tienda), its hard to miss the giant El Pastor on a spit out front - although you may need to look around the hoards of paying customers that crowd the street out front. But if its always busy, its gotta be good right? In this case, this rings true.  All your classic Mexican options available, but the absolute best are the Tacos El Pastor (pork). They are just little, but for approximately 20 Pesos a taco, order as many as you’d like…Address: Calle Marlín 12
